Parasite Prevention & Treatment

Parasite prevention and treatment is an integral part of heading
off many common diseases that adversely affect both animal and human health.

Some of the many diseases transmitted by external parasites (fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes) include Heartworm disease, Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Anaplasmosis, and Bartonella (Cat Scratch Fever). Preventive treatments for heartworm, fleas and ticks are proven safe and effective to reduce the risk of diseases to pets when given monthly all year round.

Internal parasites (hookworms, roundworms, giardia, tapeworms) likewise cause serious disease, most commonly of the gastrointestinal tract. Fecal exams as well as some blood tests are done regularly in our clinic to identify internal (gastrointestinal) parasites. Once identified, internal parasites may be treated with the appropriate anthelmintics.
