Surgery & Dentistry
At Riverbend, surgery and dentistry are provided for our current patients on a case-by-case basis. If your pet requires more advanced care, we will discuss referral options and recommend a trusted specialist when needed.
As an AAHA-accredited hospital, we strictly follow the American Animal Hospital Association’s guidelines for anesthesia, surgery, and dentistry—ensuring every patient receives the highest standard of care.
Emergency surgeries such as gastrointestinal foreign body removal and splenectomy can be accommodated on occasion but usually require referral to a 24-hour facility for proper monitoring postoperatively.
Dr. Pelletier performs Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment (COHAT) procedures for dental and oral care on dogs and cats, which include:

Sedated oral examination and documentation of findings – A comfortable, stress-free exam to fully evaluate your pet’s mouth.

Full mouth radiographs – Dental X-rays to detect hidden issues below the gumline.

Cleaning and polishing – Removes plaque and tartar for a healthier, fresher mouth.

Extractions if needed – Removes damaged or painful teeth to improve comfort.

Gingival growth removal if needed – Eliminates overgrown tissue that may cause irritation or discomfort.
Small mammal dentistry and oral care are also provided including:

Dental float (tooth trimming) – Smooths or trims overgrown teeth for proper alignment and comfort.

Extractions – Removes damaged or diseased teeth to prevent pain and infection.

Oral abscess management – Treats infections in the mouth to restore health and comfort.

Skull/dental radiographs – X-rays to evaluate teeth, jaw, and underlying oral structures.
Surgery and dentistry are performed on current patients, on a case-by-case basis. Referral to a specialist will be discussed and recommended if needed.
